Sen. Loren Legarda and Commision on Human Rights Chair Support Venus

Post by Guest on Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:00 pm

- Venus looked phenomenal in a black, body hugging dress

- She started crying when asked about what hurt her the most with what she has read in newspapers and in some beauty fora maybe. These are speculations that she was dethroned because she was born out of wed lock. She insists that it's never a part of the criteria of Bb. Pilipinas and even in Miss Universe that a candidate must be born to married parents. She was still crying when the interview ended.

- She claimed that she never hid the fact that her father was an Indian national and that she was born in Doha, Qatar from BPCI, saying that she's been very vocal about it from the initial screening to the one on one and media interviews, etc. There are videos to prove it.

BPCI on the other hand claimed that they ACCIDENTALLY discovered Venus' birthplace which was in Qatar ONLY AFTER SHE WAS CROWNED BB.PILIPINAS from her mother's mouth.

- Venus was brought home to the Philippines after a month by her mother alone. She had never seen her dad nor spoke to him since then but despite everything, she's not mad at him and even thankful that she's alive.

- Her aunt who worked with the local civil registrar was the one who did a late registration of her birth when she turned 3 years old. As what we've read before, she was registered as Maria Venus Raj, born in Camarines Sur (Philippines) to a Catholic, Indian father and Filipina mother.

- Because her mom raised her alone, she opted not to correct any misinformation in her documents because there were more important things to attend to like putting food on the table for the family rather than a document which they thought won't affect Venus' future.

- Venus claims that she only took hold of her birth certificate back in high school. She thought that her documents were just fine.

- She is bringing her case to the court of law. She is definitely going to fight for her crown, a crown she believes to be really hers.

- All she wants from BPCI is to set the record straight since the reason of INCONSISTENCIES IN HER DOCUMENTS wasn't made clear to her. Again, she never hid her place of birth from them but BPCI claims otherwise. VENUS SAID SHE'S NOT MAD WITH BPCI AND MADAM STELLA ARANETA. I'm not sure though if I should believe her.

To those who have watched the live interview, please correct any wrong info from my interpretation. Thanks!

I was registered 8 days after my birth. When it was time for me to study, my parents found out that the birthdate setforth on my birth certificate was the day I was registered...this wasn't rectified...katakot-takot pang paliwanag ang na-perceived ng mga parents ko... saka pag-consulta ng lawyer at paggawa ng affidavit bukod sa laking abala, laking gastos pa... my parents, just like Venus' mom, would rather work para may makain kami, kesa maglakad ng papeles...

I was with BPCI's side when Sandra was excluded from the 24 officical candidates because I think the grounds of her exclusion were really stipulated in their rules but on Venus' case? HELL NO!

SHE DID NOT LIE NOR DENY THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
If you've seen the video, she said that in the one-on-one interview, one judge even asked her "So, what's so special about being born abroad?".

WHAT HAPPENED TO VENUS (and to many others) CLEARLY PROVED HOW INEFFICIENT BPCI IS IN HANDLING THE MU FRANCHISE! So sad because Venus, a well prepared candidate for Miss Universe, had to be in it.

I am not expecting Venus to get the crown the back. They have declared Nikette already. We know how firm BPCI is with their decisions. BPCI is also a private organization and that would give Venus a harder time BUT...just GO ON VENUS! Fight for it! At least you won't ask yourself "What Ifs" in the end.

BPCI also let Venus affix her signature in a document as a form of acceptance of her dethronement but she declined to do so. Good job Venus! But despite Venus not acknowledging BPCI's haphazard decision, they still went on National TV to broadcast the aforementioned.

I only placed Venus n my list as First Runner-Up...but her winning the BbP-Universe wasn't hard to accept...I'm in awe with her physical assets--who wouldn't be impressed with an hour-glass figure like hers...after Krissa, Venus came to the pageant well-prepared.

I really hope that this "nightmare" comes to pass in her favor...we've come this close to winning our third MU crown with her...

My younger brother's birth was registered after a month. In his birth certificate, they put the date he was registered as his birth date because that was the instructions from that government agency.

Today he is celebrating his birthday on the day he was really born but when he is filling up forms, he is putting what is in his birth certificate

Here is the interwiew in verbatim

MANILA, Philippines - Dethroned 2010 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj on Sunday vowed to question the decision of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) to strip her of her crown due to "inconsistencies" in her birth records.

During her live interview on "The Buzz," an emotional Raj maintained that the officials of the BPCI knew from the very beginning the incorrect entries in her birth certificate, and that the inconsistencies were not her fault. She said she was transparent about her background during the screening of candidates.

The beauty queen from Camarines Sur said up until now she is clueless why she was stripped of her title. She said she is ready to fight for her crown.

Below is Raj's full interview with "The Buzz" host Boy Abunda.

Boy: So, ipaglalaban mo ang korona mo?

Venus: Of course.

Boy: Kasi hindi na-mention ng Binibining Pilipinas Charities 'yong sinabi mo ngayon na you were born out of wedlock.

I was born in Doha, Qatar but I was raised here in the Philippines. And then, may one-on-one interview, sinasabi ko rin po ito.

Sa isa ngang interview, sinabi sa akin nang nag-interview, 'So what is is so special being born abroad?' So, para sa akin wala pong problema at alam ko po from the very beginning alam po nila ito.

Boy: So, bakit nila ginagawang dahilan ito? Would you know why?

So, what's the truth? That is one inconsistency. How do you explain that?

Boy: So, you have nothing to do with the inconsistency?

Venus: Exactly.

Boy: Were you aware of the inconsistency when you joined Bb Pilipinas na nakalagay doon sa birth certificate mo CamSur samantalang sa Doha ka pinanganak?

Venus: Yes, I am aware and I am telling them from the very beginning.

Boy: Didn't you correct the inconsistency?

I'm hearing for the first time you were born out of wedlock. Bawal ba sa Bb Pilipinas rules?

Venus: I don't know.

Venus: Totoo.

Boy: What about your father? He's an Indian national.

Venus: Yes, he is.

Boy: Naiintindihan kita. My father was born out of wedlock. So, right now given where you are, ano ang mga gagawin mo?

You're going to the courts of law para ilaban na you deserve the crown?

Venus: Yes. I know I deserve the crown at wala akong nakikita na dapat i-disqualify nila ako for that.

Boy: Venus, final words.

Boy: Do you still see your dad?

Boy: So, you have no contact with your father?

Venus: Wala po.

Boy: Pero wala kang kinakargang galit?

Venus. Wala po. Pasalamat po ako at buhay ako ngayon.

Boy: Go ahead. Talk to your mother, talk to your dad, talk to Bb Pilipinas Charities.

Kasi ang alam ko po I deserve what I got from the very beginning.

You totally question the decision?

Venus: Exactly.

Hearing those words from her mouth during her interview with Boy Abunda, I was really really sad for her. Her sacrifices was just wasted and was less appreciated by the organization (BPCI). I still like her to be our rep for MU compared with the replacement. The replacement, for me, is not a beauty queen material. She's pretty alright but lack so many qualities a beauty queen should be. I'm sorry guys but I'm just expressing what I'm feeling about the dethroned beauty and her replacement.

I hope so Caaron Chino, I hope so...Venus' dethronement would have been widely accepted had she misbehaved and violated rules imposed by BPCI during her reign, but no, she was dethroned for reasons that should have been dealt with during the screening of candidates...

MANILA, Philippines – Dethroned 2010 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj has found an ally in Commission on Human Rights chair Leila de Lima.

In her statement sent to ABS-CBN News, De Lima said she is concerned about Raj’s situation. The Filipino-Indian beauty from Camarines Sur was dethroned due to “inconsistencies” in her birth records.

The CHR head said the beauty queen’s case “deserves serious scrutiny.”

“She's a fellow Bicolana who hails from a neighboring town of my hometown, Iriga City. Preliminarily, I ask, was Ms. Raj given her day before being stripped of her title? What was the exact basis for the decision to dethrone her?” she said.

Raj has vowed to question the decision of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) to dethrone her. The beauty queen said she is prepared to bring her case to the court.

According to BPCI, there are some inconsistencies contained in Raj's birth records in contrast to her personal account of her birth.

Raj, however, maintained that the officials of the BPCI knew from the very beginning the incorrect entries in her birth certificate. She said she was transparent during the pre-pageant screening of candidates.

Second runner-up Helen Nicolette Henson has been named Raj’s replacement.

Henson, the 21-year-old Broadcast Journalism major at St. Scholastica's College, took over Raj’s place after the pageant’s 1st runner up failed to meet the age requirement of the Miss Universe Pageant.

Loren to Venus' rescue
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo (The Philippine Star) Updated April 06, 2010 12:00 AM

Dethroned 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj and Sen./Vice Presidentiable Loren Legarda (inset)
| Zoom Being a champion of women’s rights (besides the environment), Sen./Vice Presidentiable Loren Legarda deplores the decision of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) to dethrone 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj on a mere technicality barely a month after she won.

“I’m shocked!” said Loren. “Why didn’t (the BPCI) thoroughly check her application form and, for that mattrer, those of the other candidates before they were given the go-signal to compete? It’s unfair to Venus, or any winner, to be exposed to national embarrassment and ridicule after she is declared winner.”

Funfare learned that the matter was brought to Loren’s attention by Francis Padua Papica whose foundation sponsored Venus’ scholarship at the Bicol University where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree (major in Journalism).

According to some sources, the BPCI found out that, although the birth certificate that Venus had filed was authentic, it contained “false information” such as, 1). She was born in Camarines Sur but she and her mom said that she was actually born in Doha, Qatar; 2). Her dad was Filipino/Catholic when in fact he’s Indian; and 3). Her parents are married when in fact they were not.

As Butch said in his column, and I agree, those “discrepancies” are too minor and could easily be corrected by getting an authentic copy of Venus’ birth certificate from the NSO (National Statistics Office). Besides, if you are Filipino, as Venus is, you remain a Filipino no matter where you were born. So what if Venus is illegitimate (her parents not being married). Melanie Maquez is also a “love child” and yet she brought honor to the country by winning Miss International (1979). If I remember right, Porntip Nakhirunkanok was born, raised and educated in Los Angeles and yet she represented Thailand in the 1988 Miss Universe pageant and won, and so did Russian-born Natalie Glebova who competed as Miss Canada in the 2005 Miss Universe Pageant and also won.

“I pity Venus,” said Loren who is seriously thinking what she can do to help her. “As I said, embarrassing situations like this can be avoided if (the BPCI) is doing its job well.”
